Basilicata is not just the area, it’s another world with mountains and lakes, the azure sky covered by fluffy white clouds, friendly and curious people. And, of course, Matera is the pearl of this fantastic world. But before captivating you with its beauties, Basilicata will conquer your stomach at first. Famous bread, great wines, sweet and hot peppers, lamb... oh, that list is endless. You will see Italy from a new angle and lose your heart there.

We will meet in Potenza, the capital of the region, or any other city if agreed.

Do you want to wear the real wings to feel the freedom of flight? Flight of the Angel will be waiting for you. It is a flight on a cable between the mountains in the Lucan Dolomites. Transfer to Matera. It is considered the most unusual settlement in Italy. Unbelievable, but the city is built directly in the rocks. It’s a stunning UNESCO World Heritage Site and Cultural Capital of Europe 2019. Do you know where the latest James Bond episode was shot? What about "The Passion of the Christ" by Mel Gibson? Yes, you are right - here! Dwellings built in mountainous massifs remained here since ancient times.

Ready to feel like a Flinstone a bit? Just a joke, but we will settle down in a beautiful cave hotel, located in the rocks of the old town of Matera.

Then, relax. We will bask and enjoy ourselves in Roman thermal springs.

Day 2

Breakfast.

Then, the professional guide from Matera will introduce you to the town he/she loves.

Lunch at the charming local osteria.

Right after lunch, the continuation of Matera and the surrounding area sightseeing tour is waiting for you.

Transfer to Melfi, located on a hill at the foot of the extinct volcano Monte Vulture. Once, this town was chosen as a summer residence for the emperor of the Roman Empire. Here was his quiet place, where he was free to follow his passion - the falconry.

We will settle in lovely agriturismo, where a master class of Basilicata ancient cuisine is waiting for you. Of course, you will dine with self-prepared masterpieces. Sweet dreams are guaranteed after such a busy day.

Day 3

Breakfast.

Visiting Castle of Melfi. Here, on the ground floor, you will visit the Archaeological Museum of Melfi to see the collection of archaeological evidence found in the area. Moreover, you will see the splendid Roman sarcophagus or the so-called “Sarcophagus of Rapolla” kept in the clock tower. Then, you will continue your adventure with a sightseeing tour in the city and the surroundings.

Lunch in a beautiful place near Melfi, where the beautiful agriturismo restaurant for locals is located. In addition to delicious food made by ancient recipes, the most expensive spice in the world, the saffron, is grown here.

Do you know the reason why the volcanic soils of Monte Vulture are so famous? In vino veritas. Literally, here Aglianico, a black grape that is one of the greatest varieties. Presumably, it originates from Greece. Aglianico del Vulture is a DOC wine that is considered one of the best in Italy. Here it is also called "South Barolo".

And the last step in our journey is visiting historic cellars, tasting amazing Basilicata wines in one of the best wineries in the region.
